The origin of Blackjack

It is believed that Blackjack originated in France during the 17th century. First known as “vingt-et-un ‘(one-and-twenty), the game was during the 17th century in French casinos, but probably originated from two other French card games: Chemin de Fer and French Ferme which at that time very popular. Instead of the popular conception, when the French twenty-introduced in America, was the first great difficulty to get people to the table, so the American gambling houses changed the rules slightly. First they took the dealer’s right off double down when the second they changed the rules so you do not bet after each round had to bet. But probably most important, they introduced a system whereby the payment went up if you had an ace of spades and blackjack. The hand became known as blackjack and this name was so hung that the game was called Blackjack soon.

The popularity of modern blackjack

Nine years later, in 1962, Edward Thorpe published his work on blackjack, Beat the Dealer. Thorpe also worked on some of Baldwin’s findings and introduced us to the method of card counting. He taught systems and techniques to remember which cards were passed, resulting in knowing how and when to bet on better opportunities. Surprisingly and unlike other books on how to beat the casino, this theory actually worked and was used by advanced players, like the famous Ken Uston, a role models within the blackjack history. In 1970 the theories of Thorpe Uston himself seized, winning millions in casinos, each casino so much that he recognized him exiled. Uston became a master of disguise in order to slip. After a lawsuit against a casino that had banished him to have won, fought back through the casino’s multiple decks of cards to introduce the counting of cards harder to make.
